Sheng-hua (Starry) Zhong received the B.Sc. degree in optical information science and technology from the Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunication, Nanjing, China, in 2005, and the M.S. degree in signal and information processing from Shenzhen University, Guangdong, China, in 2007. She received the Ph.D. degree from the Department of Computing, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong, in 2013. She is currently a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at Johns Hopkins University, working with Dr. Jonathan Flombaum.
Her current research interests include multimedia content analysis, psychology, brain science and cognitive science. The main goal of her research program is merge the human-machine gap in visual content analysis via computational models, and characterize brain cognition in computational terms. To what extent does human brain implement different algorithms to solve image and multimedia interpretation? In what ways might understanding the human mind improve the ability of engineer solutions.
